A dozen of us bought an apartment in Tenerife to set up a chaplaincy in
South Tenerife. It didn't work out as planned and we were left with J367 Parque Santiago II in LasAmericas.
We spent holidays there in 29 of the 30 years it was available! We took plenty
of pics in the predigital years but after that often didn't even take the camera. Familiarity.

La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma could be seen from our balcony - in the right atmospheric conditions

Our last visit was in 2014 when we stayed on the island for 8 weeks
- the 2 weeks we didn't have occupancy of the apartment we stayed in hotel, Las Palmeras.
We were at the far end of development in '83 but Las Americas grew and grew - until it reached
Los Cristianos.

El Teide. In our early years we hired a car. What became motorways we first knew as dirt tracks!
The road to Las Canadas was hair raising - precipitous drops from the road with some barriers but
seldom on the narrow hair pin bends! In our early years Paul climbed the last reach to the crater
fron the cable car station. Subsequently there were restrictions and in 2014 we obtained the
necessary government permit to climb again on a vastly improved path. Paul was thrilled to
make it again - this time just to the edge of the crater as that was the permitted limit. We had hours on
the mountain that day as we stayed 3 nights in the Parador at Tiede.
The sunrise on the mountain is spectacular- we had once driven up at 5 o'clock in the morning
to see it. This time we were there overnight. The first 5 shots were taken at minute intervals from 7.43, the other
2 from our room.
